Hungary and Poland at the helm of the EU Council: presidencies that raise concerns

The Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which co-legislates the Union, will be held by Viktor Orbán’s Hungary in July 2024 followed by Poland in January 2025. Given the policies pursued by these two countries on migration and asylum, these presidencies raise many questions about respect for fundamental rights, especially in the case of Hungary.
