The three countries that registered the highest number of asylum seekers in 2017 are Germany, Italy and France.
Out of 705 705 asylum claims made inside the European Union, Germany received 222 560 requests, Italy 128 850 and France 99 330.
These three countries represent 64% of the total of asylum claims made in the European Union.
Greece received 58 650 asylum requests. Austria and Sweden received 24 715 and 26 325 claims respectively.
